Transportation Resources

We live in a car-centric society. But not everyone can afford a car for dependable daily transportation! Affordable, reliable public transportation options are essential for creating a healthy community that’s accessible for all.

If you’re lucky enough to own a car, think of all the ways it helps you get through an average day—taking you to work, class, the grocery store, doctors’ appointments, social engagements and so much more. Now, think of how difficult getting around Joplin might be without it!

The Sunshine Lamp Trolley

Luckily, the Sunshine Lamp Trolley resumed service in early 2025, giving citizens better access to Joplin via three fixed routes that run every weekday from 6am to 6pm.

Full fare is $2.00 per person, with discounts available for seniors, active military/veterans or those with disabilities. Plus, children under 12 ride free!

Joplin Regional Transit Study

In 2023, the City of Joplin was awarded a grant to study feasible public transit options that will promote more ridership in “historically disadvantaged communities or areas of persistent poverty.” In other words, work is actively being done to help bring more transportation solutions to those who need it most in the Joplin area!
