The momentum around community health and collaboration was on full display at the Thrive Joplin Summit, April 16, 2026, where more than 200 community members gathered to help shape a stronger future for the Greater Joplin region.
Hosted as part of the Thrive Joplin Project, the Summit brought together residents, nonprofit organizations, healthcare professionals, educators, businesses, faith communities, local leaders, and community helpers from across the region for a day focused on practical, long-term solutions to improve health and well-being.
The event centered around four key focus areas identified through the Thrive Joplin process:
- Safe & Affordable Housing
- Mental Health & Substance Use
- Family Support & Social Connection
- Food, Nutrition & Physical Health
Throughout the Summit, attendees heard from speakers addressing innovative solutions and community challenges, and participated in facilitated discussions designed to move ideas toward action. Conversations focused not only on identifying barriers, but also on strengthening partnerships, aligning efforts, and building sustainable solutions that can create lasting impact for families across the region.
One of the most powerful aspects of the Summit was the diversity of voices in the room. Community members from different sectors and backgrounds came together with a shared belief that meaningful change happens through collaboration. The event highlighted the growing momentum behind the Thrive Joplin Project and the willingness of people across the region to work together toward common goals.
“This Summit demonstrated that our community is ready to move beyond conversation and toward coordinated action,” said Nicole Brown. “We saw people from every sector willing to listen, share ideas, and invest in long-term solutions that strengthen health and quality of life throughout the region.”
The Thrive Joplin Project is a four-year, community-driven initiative focused on identifying barriers to better health and well-being while creating practical strategies to strengthen the Greater Joplin region for years to come. The insights gathered through the Summit will continue informing the Healthy Community Blueprint and future community action efforts.
